Peak Season Surcharge 2026: CMA CGM Rate Updates

YQN Operation Team

Global shipping costs are shifting once again. CMA CGM recently announced a comprehensive Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) affecting core routes. This will directly impact shipments from Asia to Europe and Africa starting in June 2026.

If you are planning shipments, understanding these changes is critical. Early planning is the best way to secure space and protect your profit margins.

What is a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS)?

A Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) is an additional fee added to base freight rates. Ocean carriers apply this temporary charge when global shipping demand heavily outweighs available vessel space.

Why Do Carriers Apply PSS?

During peak seasons, retailers rush to build inventory. This sudden spike creates equipment shortages and port congestion. Carriers implement PSS to cover the rising operational costs of repositioning empty containers and managing tight schedules.
